President Lee Jae Myung quoted a user's post on X (formerly Twitter) expressing concern that his increased social media activity could lead to political isolation, writing, "Social media is a direct channel of communication between me and the people."
President Lee Jae Myung wrote, "When all media establishment figures stepped forward to isolate me, distort the facts, smear me with false information and attack me, social media was what connected me with the people, made the truth known and saved me. It was also what led me to where I am today."
He added, "Whether at a press conference, debate, site visit, Roosevelt-style fireside chat or YouTube livestream, I will draw closer to the people, share their feelings and communicate with them even more."
President Lee emphasized, "Politics is ultimately something the people do. The more difficult things are, the more we must listen directly to the people's voices without any intermediary, report directly to the people, appeal to them and communicate with them." He also said, "With greater humility and greater determination, I will examine the people's will, respect it and faithfully carry out the duties entrusted to me, making every second count as I work solely for the nation and its people."
Meanwhile, President Lee also offered guidance on how people should express their opinions on social media. He said, "Do not make people frown by using derogatory names or harsh language. Putting forward your views with dignity can earn far more support."
He continued, "Winning an argument does not mean you have won, because ultimately it is the people who will judge," and added, "For a better world, let us carry out small acts with dignity today as well, in the spirit of U-gong-i-san."
He also told a user who had harshly criticized those asking him to reduce his social media activity, "You may be angry, but using gentler language would make you more persuasive."
