Korea Railroad (KORAIL) Wins Consulting Contract for Maintenance Supply Procurement for Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7) in the Philippines

KORAIL announced on the 30th (local time) that it had won an additional contract to provide consulting on the procurement of maintenance supplies for MRT-7. MRT-7 is an urban railway being built in Metro Manila by the Philippine private-sector company San Miguel Group.
Under the contract, KORAIL will establish a procurement plan and system for maintenance supplies during the first three years after MRT-7 opens. It will also help San Miguel strengthen its in-house procurement capabilities.
The main tasks include reviewing technical specifications, quotations and contract terms for each item; identifying and connecting Korean suppliers; conducting inspections before production and shipment; and providing local acceptance inspections and technical advice.
KORAIL will also support Korean companies' entry into the Philippine rail market by connecting Korean rail parts companies with San Miguel. In July, it held a business briefing for about 30 Korean companies and arranged one-on-one consultations with San Miguel executives.
San Miguel plans to source maintenance supplies for rolling stock, electrical systems and mechanical systems needed over the 25 years after the line opens from Korea and abroad. It plans to pursue purchase contracts worth approximately $4 million with about 20 suppliers during the second half of this year.
President Kim Tae-seung said, "Through this contract, we have expanded the operations and maintenance project for Manila Metro Line 7 in the Philippines into purchasing and procurement, while supporting Korean rail companies' entry into overseas markets. Building on our expertise in rail operations and maintenance, we will create more export opportunities for Korean companies and broaden their sales channels."
