Six Construction and SOC Institutions Join Forces to Share Building Information Modeling (BIM) Data and Cooperate on Technology

[Financial News] Institutions in the construction and SOC sectors, including roads, airports, railways, housing and water resources, are establishing a cooperation framework to standardize Building Information Modeling (BIM) and promote related technologies. The initiative aims to support the digital transformation of public construction projects by sharing BIM data, guidelines and technical development achievements accumulated by each institution.
Korea Expressway, Korea Airports (KAC), Korea National Railway, Korea Land and Housing (LH), Korea Water Resources (K-water), and the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology (KICT) signed an MOU on BIM information exchange and technical cooperation at Korea National Railway's headquarters on the 30th.
BIM is a system that integrates information generated throughout a facility's life cycle—including design, construction and maintenance—into a three-dimensional model. It links construction information and work processes in a standardized manner and supports digital collaboration among participating institutions.
The agreement was pursued to lay the groundwork for collaboration among major project owners and promote the spread of BIM standards and technologies in the public sector. Officials at the level of headquarters directors from the six institutions attended the signing ceremony.
The participating institutions agreed to establish methods for sharing BIM data and a joint standards framework, and to link the BIM standards and guidelines operated by each institution. They also plan to expand exchanges among experts, share the results of technology development, and jointly publicize major achievements.
Going forward, the six institutions plan to operate working-level councils and other bodies to support the broader adoption and establishment of BIM in Korea and identify cooperative projects for the joint development of smart construction technologies.
