Sex offender who tried to lure an elementary schoolgirl sentenced to prison

【Financial News, Jeonju = Reporter Kang In】 A man in his 50s was sentenced to prison for trying to lure an elementary schoolgirl away.
The Jeonju panel of the Gwangju High Court upheld the lower court's 10-month prison sentence for A, 55, who was convicted of attempting to lure a minor.
The court also ordered him to wear an electronic location-tracking device, or electronic ankle monitor, for five years.
A was indicted for allegedly trying to lure B, a 12-year-old girl, away from an apartment complex in Deokjin District, Jeonju, on the afternoon of Jan. 16 by offering to buy her a snack.
The attempt failed because B did not fall for A's enticement.
A denied the charge, saying, "I only spoke to B and did not try to lure her."
However, the court rejected A's claim, noting his prior record of committing sex offenses against minors.
The panel ruled, "The defendant claims that he did not recognize the victim as a minor, but (in light of the various circumstances) his conduct appears to have gone beyond mere kindness," and added, "It appears that he intended to lure a minor at the time."
