Police Launch Special Investigation Team into Seoul Halloween Crowd Crush, Deploying 11 Existing Investigators

[Financial News] Police will launch a separate special investigation team to continue probing the October 29 Seoul Halloween crowd crush after the joint prosecution-police investigation team concludes its operations.
The Korean National Police Agency said on September 30 that it had formed a special police investigation team to determine the truth behind the Seoul Halloween crowd crush. The team will begin operating on October 1.
The special investigation team will consist of 12 members. Senior Superintendent Kim Geun-jun, head of the Metropolitan Criminal Investigation Unit at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, will lead the team. Eleven police investigators who handled the related cases under the existing joint prosecution-police investigation team will continue the investigation.
The special investigation team will focus on the related cases previously handled by the joint team. If a joint investigation framework is established in the future, the team plans to promptly transfer and share the investigation progress and relevant materials accumulated so far.
The special investigation team was created to prevent an investigative gap as the joint prosecution-police investigation team concludes its operations today. The police are consulting with relevant agencies on establishing a joint investigation framework involving the Serious Crime Investigation Agency and the Korean National Police Agency, so that efforts to determine the truth behind the Seoul Halloween crowd crush can continue without disruption.
A police official said, "We will continue to closely consult with relevant agencies on establishing a follow-up investigation framework and take all necessary measures to ensure that the related investigation continues without interruption."
