Jang Se-yoon, Channyeong Kim Score Wins in Judo Quarterfinals, Advance Together to Semifinals [Nagoya AG]

[Financial News] South Korean judokas Jang Se-yoon (KH Philux) and Channyeong Kim (High1) have both advanced to the semifinals of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
Jang Se-yoon defeated Xiao Yu of China by ippon in the women's 52kg quarterfinals at Aichi International Arena in Aichi, Japan, on the 30th.
The match remained tightly contested. Jang Se-yoon and Xiao Yu exchanged two shidos each by the midway point, leaving both at risk of a penalty loss if they received just one more.
The turning point came in the final stages. With just 46 seconds remaining, Jang Se-yoon scored ippon with a heel-hooking technique to seal the victory.
Channyeong Kim, competing in the men's 66kg division, also secured a semifinal berth by defeating Lin Chung-you of Taiwan by waza-ari in the quarterfinals. Kim Chanhyeong had earlier narrowly defeated Abolfazl Mahmoudi of Iran in the round of 16 after his opponent accumulated three shidos. In the quarterfinals, he scored waza-ari with an inner-thigh throw 1 minute and 16 seconds into the match, then held off his opponent's attacks for the remainder.
By contrast, Lee Ha-rim of the Armed Forces Athletic Corps was eliminated in the men's 60kg round of 16. Lee Ha-rim, a silver medalist at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, engaged Yeldos Smetov of Kazakhstan in fierce grip fighting from the outset.
With both athletes having received two shidos, Lee Ha-rim was caught in Smetov's chokehold with 2 minutes and 30 seconds remaining. He then lost by ippon after a hold-down, bringing his tournament to an end.
Jung Su-jin in the women's 48kg division was eliminated after failing to pass the random weigh-in on the morning of the competition. The allowable weight is 5% above the division limit, meaning athletes in the 48kg class may weigh up to 50.4kg. However, Jung Su-jin was reportedly 100g over the limit at the random weigh-in.
