[Breaking] GENENCELL founder Kang sentenced to four years in prison in appeals trial over 'Kim Seung-won solicitation allegations'

[Financial News] The founder of pharmaceutical company GENENCELL, identified by his surname Kang, was sentenced to four years in prison in an appeals trial. The appellate court overturned the lower court's acquittal on charges including concealing criminal proceeds and found him guilty. Kang had been indicted on charges including submitting falsified animal-testing data, with unfavorable information omitted, to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety while seeking approval for clinical trials of a COVID-19 treatment. He was sentenced at the first trial to three years in prison, suspended for five years.
The Seoul High Court's Criminal Division 7, presided over by Koo Hoe-geun, handed down the ruling on the 30th in the appeals trial concerning Kang's alleged violations of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes, including breach of trust.
