[Financial News] HJ Shipbuilding & Construction announced on the 30th that it held a naming ceremony for a 7,900-TEU-class eco-friendly container ship at Busan Yeongdo Shipyard on the morning of the 29th.
The ceremony was attended by Konstantinos Pavlopoulos, head of Greek shipowner TMS; Yoo Sang-cheol, CEO of HJ Shipbuilding & Construction; and representatives from the shipyard, Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (K-SURE), classification societies and partner companies, with around 50 participants in total.
The vessel is the fourth of eight 7,900-TEU-class container ships ordered by HJ Shipbuilding & Construction from a European shipowner in 2024. Measuring 272 meters in length, 42 meters in breadth and 20 meters in depth, it is an eco-friendly container carrier designed to improve fuel efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
At the ceremony, the spouse of Konstantinos Pavlopoulos served as the ship's godmother, naming it 'Garnet' and wishing it safe voyages and the crew a safe journey without accidents.
With this ceremony, HJ Shipbuilding & Construction has successfully delivered a total of 14 medium- and large-sized eco-friendly container ships in the 5,000-to-9,000-TEU range that it ordered after re-entering the merchant ship market in 2021.
HJ Shipbuilding & Construction has also strengthened its market competitiveness this year by securing orders for eight 10,100-TEU-class eco-friendly container ships. The company is focusing its capabilities on developing high-efficiency, eco-friendly vessels that can lead the decarbonization era and securing additional orders.
Yoo Sang-cheol said, "Going forward, we will build vessels that customers can trust based on advanced eco-friendly technologies and differentiated shipbuilding capabilities, further solidifying our position as a global shipbuilder."
