Man in His 60s Arrested for Posing as Wedding Party Member and Pocketing 1 Million Won in Gift Money

[Financial News] A man in his 60s was caught by police after allegedly posing as a member of the wedding party and collecting wedding gift money from guests at a wedding venue in Seoul's Gangnam area.
According to police on the 30th, Seoul Gangnam Police Station arrested a man in his 60s, identified as A, and is questioning him on suspicion of theft.
A is accused of posing as a member of the wedding party and taking 1 million won in gift money directly from guests at the lobby of a wedding venue in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, at around 3:48 p.m. on the 20th.
The investigation found that A had no familial or personal relationship with the bride and groom.
According to the investigation, A took advantage of the wedding party's family representatives being unable to properly monitor the gift-money collection desk and received money directly from guests. Wedding staff became suspicious and discovered the alleged crime, leading to A's arrest at the scene and his handover to police.
It was confirmed that A had previously been punished for a similar offense and was serving a suspended sentence at the time of the alleged crime.
A police official said, "We are investigating A to determine the exact circumstances of the alleged crime and whether he committed any additional offenses."
