Sungkyunkwan University Launches AI-Centered University Initiative: "We Will Cultivate Talent Who Ask Questions and Make Judgments"

Sungkyunkwan University is launching full-scale AI education for all students following the launch of its AI-Centered University initiative. Beyond learning coding or how to use AI, the program focuses on developing students' ability to question, verify, and assess AI-generated answers. The university will expand 'Bridge courses' linking academic majors with AI to cultivate 'Human+AI' talent equipped with both technological application skills and critical-thinking abilities.
Sungkyunkwan University announced this AI education plan at the AI-Centered University and AX Graduate School Joint Launch Ceremony held at Baekyang Nuri Hall at Yonsei University on the 29th. The AI-Centered University and AX Graduate School are AI talent-development programs promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute for Information and Communications Technology Planning and Evaluation (IITP).
The program focuses on how accurately students can assess AI-generated answers. Alongside 'AI Literacy (AIL),' the basic ability to use AI as a tool, students will learn 'AI Rhetorical Literacy (AIR),' which involves questioning and critically verifying AI-generated answers based on knowledge in their respective fields.
AI will also be integrated into major-specific education. The university plans to introduce 'Bridge courses' connecting each department's academic classes with AI technology, enabling students to use AI to solve problems arising in their fields of study.
AI education will be overseen by the Virtual College of AI (VCAI), an integrated control tower reporting directly to the president. Under it, the university will establish AIFC, a decision-making body at the college-dean level, and AIFA, a working-level consultative body at the department-chair level, to expand AI education across the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.
Student support infrastructure will be expanded to include 'Kingo Coin,' which provides AI practice resources to all students; 'Kingo Agent,' which supports personalized learning; 'AI Agora,' an open communication space; and 'S Center,' a university-wide integrated AI computing center. The university's own AI ethics standards, the 'SAFE Framework,' will also be incorporated into the curriculum.
Yoo Ji-beom, president of Sungkyunkwan University, said, "Building on 10 years of experience and expertise from the SW-Centered University program, we will invest intensively in Bridge courses that apply AI to different domains and cultivate creative AX designers who can connect industry and technology in an integrated manner."
