Hong So-young, commissioner of the Military Manpower Administration (MMA), held the 'AI Champions Roundtable' at Government Complex Daejeon on the 30th with employees who had received AI competency certifications from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS). The roundtable was organized on the understanding that AI-driven innovation in military manpower administration should go beyond simply introducing new systems and serve as an opportunity to bring meaningful improvements to the way frontline employees perform their work.
AI Champions is a 'professional certification in administrative innovation' jointly administered by MOIS and the National Information Society Agency (NIA). It officially recognizes practical skills in using AI tools to process actual administrative documents and conduct precise data analyses. The certification also symbolizes digital proficiency.
Hong said, "The AI experience that each employee has built up in the field is the force that will advance military manpower administration another step," and pledged, "I will actively provide support based on feedback from the field." She added, "Starting with heads of offices and bureaus, please take an interest in using AI and actively support employees' efforts," and urged them, "Please ensure that today's gathering does not remain a one-time event and that the views of frontline practitioners lead to actual improvements in their work."
The AI Champions who attended the roundtable exchanged firsthand experiences and specific tips gained from applying AI technology to their actual duties. One participant shared, "Using AI for repetitive, standardized document and data tasks that I handle every day has dramatically reduced the time required for administrative processing. This freed-up time allowed me to focus more on core public-service duties, such as assisting civil petitioners and practicing proactive administration."
Another participant proposed a practical solution, saying, "We need a culture of openly sharing with colleagues the smart ways of using AI that we have developed internally, rather than keeping them to ourselves. It would be helpful to establish more regular, customized AI training programs optimized for the practical characteristics of each department."
