"Let's Try Papago," NAVER CEO Soo Yeon Choi Attends UNGC Board Meeting

[Financial News] Soo Yeon Choi, CEO of NAVER, attended the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Board meeting held at the UN headquarters in New York City on the 19th (local time). Choi proposed considering the use of NAVER's digital and AI-powered tools, including NAVER Cloud's collaboration platform NAVER WORKS and NAVER's AI-based interpretation and translation service Papago Plus, to strengthen cooperation within the UNGC's global network.
According to industry sources on the 30th, key board members, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres and UNGC Secretary-General Sanda Ojiambo, attended the meeting and discussed the role of businesses in promoting sustainable development.
The UNGC is the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative, with some 25,000 companies and organizations participating across more than 100 countries. Based on 10 principles covering four areas—human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption—it supports businesses in pursuing sustainable growth and responsible management.
The initiative is intended to support implementation of the UNGC's "2026-2030 Strategy," which aims to help companies move beyond declarative commitments to sustainability and take concrete action.
NAVER plans to explore potential cooperation with the UNGC headquarters, networks in some 70 countries and participating small and medium-sized enterprises. It also envisions strengthening cross-border collaboration and maximizing operational efficiency through AI and digital technologies. Specific forms and timing of cooperation will be determined through consultations.
Choi said, "An efficient collaboration system that breaks down barriers between countries and regions is essential to give greater momentum to the UNGC's activities. I hope NAVER's AI and digital technologies will help drive the digital transformation of UNGC local networks and accelerate global communication."
Meanwhile, Soo Yeon Choi was officially appointed to the UNGC Board in September 2025, becoming the first Korean to hold the position in 17 years. During her three-year term, she will continue working to promote responsible technology development, global digital cooperation and a sustainable business ecosystem.
