Senior Hamas Armed-Group Commander Killed in Israeli Airstrike

[Financial News] An Israeli military strike killed a senior commander of a Hamas-affiliated armed group in the northern Gaza Strip on the 29th local time.
The Israeli military announced that it had carried out a targeted airstrike at dawn that day on an apartment in the Nasr area west of Gaza City in the northern Gaza Strip. It said the man had been involved in planning Hamas attacks and recruiting personnel, and had also ordered attacks on Israeli civilians.
Hamas-affiliated civil defense authorities also confirmed that the deceased was Izz al-Din al-Beik, describing him as a member of the General Military Council of the Hamas-affiliated Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades and commander of its northern brigade.
The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades said he was one of the commanders of the surprise operation that triggered the Gaza war in October 2023.
Although a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip was agreed last October through United States mediation, the agreement effectively collapsed as distrust and tensions intensified over the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
At least 1,400 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire agreement, as airstrikes have continued. The total death toll in the Gaza Strip from the war that began in October 2023 is estimated at approximately 74,000.
