Gangwon Technopark and Korea Tourism Organization join forces for secure tourism data analysis

According to Gangwon Technopark on the 30th, the organization signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Tourism Organization that day to build a regional data utilization ecosystem and promote the secure use of data. The agreement is intended to lay the groundwork for safely handling data by combining Gangwon Technopark's infrastructure for supporting pseudonymized information use with the Korea Tourism Organization's extensive public tourism data.
Under the agreement, the Korea Tourism Organization will use the analysis space and systems at the Gangwon Pseudonymized Information Utilization Support Center, operated by Gangwon Technopark, to carry out tourism data analysis projects. As a starting point, the two organizations plan to expand their cooperation to research on the use of pseudonymized information and public data, the joint use of human and physical infrastructure, and the discovery of data utilization projects. They will continue strengthening the foundation for regional data use.
The Gangwon Pseudonymized Information Utilization Support Center opened in 2021 as part of a support project by the Personal Information Protection Commission. It provides consulting, technical support, training, and analysis environments so organizations and companies can use pseudonymized information processed to prevent individuals from being identified. Going forward, it plans to systematize its support so that more organizations and companies can safely use personal data.
Heo Jang-hyeon, president of Gangwon Technopark, said, "Data that had only been stored because of concerns over personal information leaks can become an asset for local industries after being pseudonymized. Using the tourism data analysis project as a first step, we will broaden cooperation to jointly use personnel and equipment, encouraging more organizations and companies to knock on the center's door."
