[Financial News] SSG.COM will expand its '2-hour delivery' service nationwide, allowing customers to receive products within two hours of placing an order.
According to industry sources on the 30th, SSG.COM will increase the number of stores offering '2-hour delivery' to 33 nationwide in October, including locations in the Gangwon, Chungcheong, Jeolla and Gyeongsang regions.
'2-hour delivery' is a service that delivers most Emart products, including large-size items, within two hours of ordering. Customers who place orders by 8 p.m. can receive them the same day. After beginning a pilot program at the E-Mart Yangjae Branch and E-Mart Hanam Branch last July, SSG.COM has expanded the service to Busan and South Gyeongsang Province, Daegu, Daejeon and Sejong City.
Grocery sales also increased at stores that introduced the service. From the first to the 27th of this month, SSG Delivery sales at participating stores rose 10% from the same period last year.
Among the ordered products, large-size items that were heavy or bulky proved particularly popular. In the food category, frequently ordered items included six 2-liter bottles of water, 10 kilograms of rice, a 30-count carton of eggs, 2.3 liters of milk and 1 kilogram of frozen meat. Household products such as 30-roll packs of toilet paper, six-roll packs of kitchen towels and 4-liter containers of detergent also ranked among the most ordered items.
The strength of its product lineup, based on Emart stores, is also considered a competitive advantage. Food accounted for 90% of total '2-hour delivery' sales this month, while fresh food made up nearly half of food sales.
SSG.COM plans to expand the number of stores offering '2-hour delivery' to 55 by the end of the year. It aims to address a range of grocery-shopping needs by combining scheduled delivery, including daytime and early-morning delivery, with '2-hour delivery,' which also handles large-size items, and the quick-commerce service 'Baro Quick,' which specializes in small orders and nearby shopping.
Han Geon-su, an SSG.COM official in charge of SCM, said, "We are continuously enhancing our delivery services so that customers can receive the products they need when they want them. We will strengthen our competitiveness in online grocery shopping by organically combining scheduled and on-demand delivery."
