[Financial News] Cosmax, a global cosmetics original development and manufacturing (ODM) company, is expanding its development of personalized hair-care technologies using artificial intelligence (AI) and biological big data.
On the 30th, Cosmax said it had recently developed a noninvasive alopecia-areata prediction model trained on approximately 22 million national health-screening records from South Korea and Japan and had filed a patent application for it.
The model analyzes 33 variables, including physiological and medical indicators such as blood pressure and liver readings, as well as demographic and socioeconomic indicators, to predict the risk of alopecia areata.
Cosmax has test-applied the algorithm to its personalized beauty platform, BYNIQ. Based on the risk of alopecia areata predicted through a medical questionnaire, the platform recommends products featuring Soyact, a non-notified functional ingredient for hair-loss relief, and the premium ingredient GanoxylTM.
Cosmax is also conducting research that reflects scalp characteristics by ethnicity. It analyzed the scalp lipidomes of 387 East Asian, European and African subjects, classified scalp types into three categories, and examined common lipid profiles linked to ethnic characteristics and scalp environments associated with hair loss. Based on these findings, the company plans to develop ethnicity-tailored products.
The company is also expanding research into hair-care ingredients. In collaboration with Seoul National University, it developed Corelink-S, a new material that restores cystine bonds in hair and improves the tensile strength of damaged hair by more than 120%. The research was selected as a finalist in the Hair Care Formulation category of the Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna Awards, held at the world's largest beauty trade show.
Cosmax is continuing to post results in its hair-care business. Hair-care sales rose by approximately 65% year on year in the first half of this year. The company filed 37 hair-care-related patent applications over the past three years. Cosmax is also expanding its overseas business, having signed an agreement last year with global functional-ingredient company ScienceCo to target the curly-hair market and established the joint venture TRINEX with Japanese beauty distributor Fujishin in July.
A Cosmax representative said, "We are expanding our hair-care research through convergence technologies based on AI and big data, as well as global personalized research," adding, "We will offer customized solutions for different ethnicities and hair types, backed by our industry-leading technological capabilities."
