[Financial News] LG Electronics is expanding the supply of its tumbler-only cleaning machine, LG myCup, to companies and military facilities as it works to promote the use of reusable cups.
LG Electronics said on the 30th that it will hold a joint event called "MyCupStar" with Starbucks Coffee Korea for customers who use LG myCup from October 1 through 31.
The event was organized to encourage the use of reusable cups while highlighting the convenience and hygiene performance of LG myCup.
Customers can enter the event through the LG myCup app after washing their tumblers three times using an LG myCup machine installed at a Starbucks store. Winners will be selected by lottery to receive Starbucks e-cards worth 500,000 won for 10 people, 100,000 won for 50 people, and 50,000 won for 100 people. Another 3,000 participants will receive free beverage coupons that can be used when bringing their own cups.
LG Electronics is also expanding the supply of LG myCup by linking its distribution efforts with environmental, social and governance (ESG) activities at public institutions.
LG Electronics recently signed a business agreement with the Seoul Business Agency and agreed to supply LG myCup to companies supported by the agency. The two organizations will jointly conduct a campaign to reduce the use of disposable paper cups, while allocating part of the proceeds from product sales to support young people preparing for independent living.
Next month, LG Electronics will supply 10 LG myCup units to Osan Air Base. The company plans to help military personnel conveniently use tumblers and other reusable cups in their barracks.
Since launching LG myCup, LG Electronics has expanded its business-to-business (B2B) customer base by supplying the machines to cafes, universities, gyms, public institutions, and corporate offices.
Last year, LG Electronics supplied LG myCup to 21 universities in Gyeonggi Province. Use has been particularly active on university campuses, where interest in environmental issues is high. The average daily use of LG myCup machines installed on campuses was found to be more than 50% higher than the overall average.
LG Electronics offers LG myCup as a subscription product that includes regular maintenance services to reduce the operational burden on its corporate customers.
A professional care manager visits every six months to steam-clean the lower door grille and the detergent and rinse-aid dispensers, check the operation of the touchscreen and inspect the exterior for damage, and replace the filter screen inside the washing tub and the water-supply filter.
LG myCup uses 360-degree rotating cleaning arms and 65°C high-pressure water to clean the inside and outside of a tumbler, as well as its lid. On the standard four-minute cycle, it removes 99.999% of three harmful bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Listeria, and Salmonella.
Park Sang-wan, head of LG Electronics' myCup Company, said, "We will continue to create an environment where reusable cups can be used conveniently through LG myCup, while also identifying new B2B business opportunities."
