[Financial News] Busan Metropolitan City Government has unveiled a blueprint for cultural policy under the ninth popularly elected administration, including the creation of a 100 billion won cultural arts fund and an expansion of cultural arts support to 10 billion won.
Busan Metropolitan City Government will hold a cultural affairs town hall meeting at the main conference room of City Hall on the afternoon of the 30th under the theme "Citizens Ask, Busan Answers."
About 100 people, including cultural arts experts and residents, will participate in the event. It was organized to share the cultural arts policy vision of the ninth popularly elected administration and hear directly from residents about cultural issues.
The event will consist of Part 1, a "Discussion on Cultural Arts Policy under the Ninth Popularly Elected Administration," and Part 2, a "Discussion on Current Cultural Issues."
In Part 1, Mayor Chun Jae-soo will declare "Busan, a Cultural Basic City"—where the principle that "Culture is a basic right of citizens" serves as a fundamental principle of city administration—as the central direction of cultural policy under the ninth popularly elected administration. To make this vision a reality, he will announce five major cultural arts commitments to prioritize during his term: reaching 10 billion won in cultural arts support, creating a multipurpose cultural exhibition space at Busan North Port, completely overhauling the everyday cultural system by using private facilities such as cafes as cultural venues, establishing a 100 billion won cultural arts fund, and creating Platform 051 as a new channel connecting cultural stakeholders.
In Part 2, Busan Metropolitan City Government will explain its deliberations on cultural issues, including the Centre Pompidou Busan branch and invited performances by Teatro alla Scala. Residents will then ask questions on these topics, and the mayor will answer them directly.
The town hall meeting will be livestreamed, and opinions submitted through real-time comments and residents' questions are expected to be reflected in city administration.
Mayor Chun said, "Through this town hall meeting, I will listen directly to the voices of residents and work with them to find solutions, completing Busan as a Cultural Basic City where everyone can freely enjoy culture in their daily lives."
