BTS RM's Collection Heads to the U.S.; 180 Works, Including Pieces by Yun Hyong-keun and Chang Ucchin, at SFMOMA

[Financial News] RM of BTS, known as an art enthusiast, is partnering with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) to exhibit his personal collection starting on the 10th, 3rd (local time).
According to his agency, Big Hit Music, on the 30th, the special exhibition 'RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me,' presented jointly by RM and SFMOMA, will run for about four months through Feb. 7 next year. It is the first exhibition at a museum to showcase RM's personal collection.
RM said through his agency, Big Hit Music, "This is the first time I am sharing my collection under my own name. I believe few things reveal a person as honestly as a collection that they have built over a long period. In that sense, this exhibition will be quite an extended self-introduction." He added, "My collection includes many works by modern and contemporary Korean artists. Some of these names may still be unfamiliar outside Korea, but I have collected them hoping to offer a somewhat better perspective and sensibility, and that process led to this exhibition."
RM took part directly in the exhibition's planning and overall curation. He selected the works and developed the exhibition with SFMOMA co-curators America Castillo and Kim Hyo-eun. He will also present exhibition texts and artwork descriptions that he wrote in Korean and English. A bilingual audio guide recorded in his own voice will be available as well. RM personally selected the music played in the galleries.
This is SFMOMA's first collaboration with a K-pop artist since its founding.
180 Works, Including 140 from RM's Personal Collection, Gathered in One Place
Approximately 180 works selected by RM and SFMOMA will be brought together for the exhibition.
Works by leading figures in modern and contemporary Korean art, including Yun Hyong-keun, Park Rae-hyun, Chang Ucchin, Kwon Ok-Yeon, Kim Yun Shin and To SangBong, will be presented alongside works held by SFMOMA by Kim Whanki, Nam June Paik, Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Henri Matisse and Georgia O'Keeffe.
Through ceramics, calligraphy, painting and sculpture, visitors can also explore the evolution of Korean art from the sixth century to the present.
Of these, approximately 140 works were collected by RM, and most will be shown in the United States for the first time.
