"Black Smoke Outside the Window"—High School Student Rushed Out of Academy Class Carrying Fire Extinguisher

[Financial News] A high school student attending a class at a private academy spotted a fire at a nearby transformer and used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames, preventing further damage.
According to the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Fire Headquarters on the 29th, a fire broke out at a transformer in Ogam-dong, Mokpo, Jeonnam-Gwangju, at around 4 p.m. on the 25th.
The situation was highly dangerous. Flames erupted among discarded boxes around the transformer, potentially leading to secondary accidents such as a chain of explosions or a power outage.
However, 18-year-old Kim Seung-yu, who spotted black smoke from a window at a nearby academy, brought a fire extinguisher directly to the scene and contained the flames, preventing further damage.
Kim asked passersby to report the fire and put it out herself using a fire extinguisher. Even after the flames had subsided, she remained concerned that the fire might reignite. She fetched water from nearby and sprayed it on the site, doing her best to extinguish the fire.
Thanks to Kim's efforts, the fire was extinguished within five minutes after burning part of the transformer. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Kim said, "I was scared at first, but whenever I received fire-safety training at school, I thought that if something like this happened, I should step forward without hesitation," adding, "I think I put into practice what I had learned."
Mokpo Fire Station plans to present Kim with a commendation from the fire station chief for her role in extinguishing the fire. Lee O-sook, head of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Fire Headquarters, said, "I would like to thank Kim Seung-yu for calmly putting out the fire with a fire extinguisher in a dangerous situation."
