[Financial News] The Korea Venture Capital Association (KVCA) will begin accepting applications on the 30th for the ninth Certified Venture Investment Specialist (CVIS) exam, which is designed to train professionals in venture investment. The exam will be held on November 28 at Kyunggi High School in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
The CVIS, administered directly by the KVCA, is the first and only private qualification in South Korea specializing in venture investment. Since its introduction in 2023, the program has produced 1702 passers across eight exams.
According to the KVCA, 147 of the 552 applicants for the eighth exam, or 26.6%, worked in the VC industry. The remaining 405 applicants, including those from general companies, institutions and individuals, accounted for 73.4% of the total.
The exam was designed to comprehensively assess core capabilities required in the field of venture investment rather than focusing solely on theory. Its test subjects cover three areas: understanding venture capital investments, venture capital investment methodologies, and understanding venture capital exits. The exam assesses candidates' abilities in corporate analysis, supporting investment decision-making, post-investment management and developing exit strategies.
Jeong Ji-young, deputy head of the KVCA Training Institute, said, "With more than 1700 cumulative passers, the CVIS is helping a wide range of people interested in venture investment develop professional capabilities." Jeong added, "We hope those seeking to enhance their expertise in venture investment or prepare for a related career will take a keen interest."
Meanwhile, industry observers say demand is growing for professionals with relevant practical skills as the venture investment market becomes more specialized, expanding beyond simple investment screening to include corporate valuation, exit strategies and portfolio management.
A VC industry source said, "Recently, the need has grown not only at VC firms but also at corporate venture capital units of large companies, financial institutions and startups for professionals who understand venture investment structures." The source added, "The fact that a significant number of applicants come from outside the VC industry appears to reflect this trend."
