"Three children were on board": Taekwondo academy van swerved for 1 km before crashing and overturning, killing driver

[Financial News] A taekwondo academy van carrying students, including elementary schoolchildren, struck a curb and overturned on a road in Yangpyeong County, Gyeonggi Province, killing its driver in his 60s and injuring three children.
According to police and fire authorities on the 29th, at around 5:25 p.m. that day, a taekwondo academy van driven by a man in his 60s, identified only as A, struck a curb on a road in Jipyeong-myeon, Yangpyeong County, and overturned onto its side. A was transported to a hospital by the 119 Emergency Medical Service while in cardiac arrest, but he eventually died. Three children in the back seat—two elementary school students and one kindergarten student—sustained minor injuries and are receiving treatment at a hospital.
Police are investigating the exact cause of the accident based on circumstances at the scene and dashcam footage. Since the vehicle had been veering toward the right side of the road from about 1 km before the crash and was unable to drive normally, police believe A may have lost consciousness because of a sudden health problem, possibly related to an underlying illness, while driving and caused a single-vehicle accident.
A police official said, "We are investigating while keeping various possibilities open, including whether the driver was intoxicated or had taken drugs. For now, however, we are leaning toward the accident having been caused by a health problem affecting the driver," adding, "To determine the exact cause of death and clarify the circumstances of the accident, we plan to request that the National Forensic Service perform an autopsy on A's body."
