Jeju Facilities Management Corporation's First Open Recruitment Draws 592 Applicants... Administrative Grade 8 Sees 63.5-to-1 Competition

[Financial News Jeju = Reporter Jung Yong-bok] The first open recruitment drive for the Jeju Facilities Management Corporation, which is scheduled to launch in January 2027, drew 592 applicants. Competition for four administrative Grade 8 positions surged to 63.5 applicants per position, while no one applied for the Grade 2 team leader position overseeing the corporation's sewerage operations, highlighting clear differences by grade and field.
According to Jeju Special Self-Governing Province on the 29th, 592 people applied for 23 positions during the open recruitment application period from the 14th to the 22nd. The average competition ratio was 25.7 to 1.
Administrative positions received 467 applications for 11 openings, resulting in an average competition ratio of 42.4 to 1. Technical positions received 125 applications for 12 openings, for a ratio of 10.4 to 1.
The most competitive position was entry-level administrative Grade 8. A total of 254 people applied for four positions, meaning that 63.5 applicants competed for each opening.
Administrative positions were also more popular among experienced hires. Administrative Grade 6 drew 51 applicants for one position, producing a 51-to-1 ratio, while administrative Grade 5 received 99 applications for three positions, or 33 to 1. Administrative and finance Grade 6 attracted 45 applicants for two positions, for a ratio of 22.5 to 1, while IT Grade 6 received 18 applications for one position, or 18 to 1.
Among technical positions, electrical jobs were relatively competitive. Grade 5 electrical and entry-level Grade 8 electrical each received 23 applications for one position, resulting in a ratio of 23 to 1. Grade 6 electrical recorded a ratio of 20 to 1.
In the environmental water-quality field, the ratio was 17 to 1 for Grade 6 and 12 to 1 for entry-level Grade 8. In the mechanical field, Grade 5 mechanical recorded a ratio of 8 to 1, mechanical safety 5 to 1, Grade 6 mechanical 2 to 1, and entry-level Grade 8 mechanical 1 to 1.

Despite the high average competition ratio in the first recruitment drive, no one applied for the single Grade 2 head of the sewerage operations team position. The role involves overseeing the operation of sewerage facilities that the corporation will manage in the future. Given that the Jeju Facilities Management Corporation is scheduled to take over sewerage facilities as a major part of its responsibilities, attention is focused on how the position will be filled in a subsequent recruitment process.
The corporation is the first local public corporation to be launched in Jeju. Under this structure, the corporation will take over facility management and operations previously handled directly by administrative agencies, with the goal of improving expertise and operational efficiency.
The corporation will manage a total of 42 facilities, including 39 sewerage facilities and three environmental facilities. They will be transferred in stages rather than all at once. After the corporation launches in January 2027, it will begin operating public sewage treatment facilities in July of the same year.
In 2028, the corporation is scheduled to take over regional waste treatment facilities and excreta treatment facilities, followed by the Jeju Public Sewage Treatment Facility in 2029. Employees hired in the first recruitment drive will prepare for the transfer of these facilities and the start of operations.
The recruitment process will get into full swing next month. The written examination will be held on Oct. 17, and the test location will be announced on Oct. 8. After personality tests, document screening, and interviews from late October through November, final successful applicants are scheduled to be announced on Dec. 2.
Successful applicants will be appointed in January or March 2027 after registering as candidates for appointment. Staff will be assigned in stages to match the corporation's initial staffing needs and the schedule for taking over the facilities.
Yang Je-yoon, Director General for Planning and Coordination of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, said, "As many people applied for the first open recruitment drive, we will conduct the remaining stages fairly and transparently." Yang added, "We will select talented individuals capable of leading the corporation's launch and facility operations."
