Opposition Party Opposes 'Special Counsel on Fabricated Prosecutions' as Party Line... Chung Jeom-sik: "Withdrawal of Prosecution Is the Road to Impeachment, Resignation and Ouster"

[Financial News] Chung Jeom-sik, floor leader of the People Power Party, sharply criticized the special counsel bill on fabricated prosecutions being pursued by the Democratic Party of Korea, calling it "a buildup to the withdrawal of prosecution." He warned, "If they push through the withdrawal of prosecution, they must bear in mind that it will soon lead down the path of impeachment, resignation and the ouster of the administration." The People Power Party subsequently resolved to oppose the fabricated-prosecution special counsel bill as its official party line.
Chung Jeom-sik made the remarks after holding a lawmakers' meeting at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea on the 29th. "There are reports that the Democratic Party of Korea will force the special counsel bill on the withdrawal of prosecution through the plenary session this week," he said.
Chung Jeom-sik argued that even if the Democratic Party of Korea does not grant the special counsel investigating fabricated prosecutions the authority to withdraw prosecutions, it would ultimately still be a buildup toward that goal. President Lee Jae Myung even personally called for the authority to withdraw prosecutions to be removed from the bill. However, Chung criticized the move, saying, "It is a sham meant to deceive the public and an outright fraud against the people." He added, "The special counsel investigation, which has already decided on a fabricated-prosecution conclusion and is conducting a predetermined investigation, is itself a special counsel probe designed with the goal of withdrawing prosecutions—a 'buildup to the withdrawal of prosecution.'"
Chung Jeom-sik asked the People Power Party lawmakers attending the meeting, "Would you agree to a resolution to oppose the special counsel bill on the withdrawal of prosecution as the party line?" The lawmakers responded with applause, signaling their agreement.
