Kang Myung-soo, Former KSA President, Appointed Inaugural Deputy Mayor for Industry and Economy of Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City

[Financial News, Jeonnam-Gwangju—Reporter Hwang Tae-jong] Kang Myung-soo, former president of the Korean Standards Association, has been appointed inaugural deputy mayor for industry and economy of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City.
Gwangju Metropolitan City explained that the new deputy mayor, Kang Myung-soo, is an industry and trade expert who has served as director-general of MOTIE's Office of Trade Cooperation and as its spokesperson. He is expected to play a pivotal role in setting the direction of the integrated special city's industrial and economic policies and proactively addressing complex issues, including the development of space and advanced industries, investment attraction, regional economic revitalization, job creation, and the growth of the forestry industry.
Deputy Mayor Kang said, "I am deeply honored to take on the immense responsibility of serving as the inaugural deputy mayor for industry and economy of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City." He added, "I will do my utmost to strengthen the region's industrial base, create an environment where businesses can grow, and build new future growth engines for the integrated special city."
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City, Deputy Mayor Kang is from Naju. He graduated from Gwangju Jeil High School and Seoul National University's Department of Economics, earned a master's degree in public administration from Seoul National University's graduate school, and obtained a doctorate in economics from the University of Missouri.
After entering public service through the 35th National Administrative Examination, he held a range of key positions, including director of the Biohealth Division at the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, director-general for policy coordination at the Presidential Committee on Regional Development, director-general of MOTIE's Office of Trade Cooperation, spokesperson for MOTIE, and standing commissioner of the Korea Trade Commission. Through these roles, he built broad experience and demonstrated exceptional capabilities.
After leaving public service, he further developed solid expertise in industry and economics by serving as president of KSA and head of Samil PricewaterhouseCoopers' Global Trade Solutions Center.
