Daejeon Metropolitan City held the 'Jobdam (JOB+Talk) Live' event, a talk-concert-style gathering of young people and current employees, at Daedeok Hall of Chungnam National University's International Cultural Center on the 29th. The event provided an opportunity to share young people's practical concerns about employment and career paths.
'Jobdam Live' is part of the Comprehensive Youth Jobs Project for Settling in Daejeon, which has been underway since 2024 to improve young people's perceptions of local companies and support the settlement of young talent in the region.
Through the project, Daejeon Metropolitan City has been identifying "youth-attracting companies," or companies that appeal to young people because of their competitive wages and benefits, work environments, and growth potential. From 2024 through September this year, a cumulative total of 50 companies have been selected as youth-attracting companies and are working with Daejeon Metropolitan City to help resolve local youth employment issues.
Five mentors took part in the event, including C-level executives, human resources managers, and senior employees from two major youth-attracting companies: leading biotech firm Alteogen and space and aerospace specialist InSpace. About 200 young job seekers who attended heard firsthand stories about preparing for employment, practical work experience, workplace know-how, and the process of finding jobs and settling at local companies. They also had their career-related questions answered through an on-the-spot question-and-answer session.
As the concentration of outstanding talent in the Seoul metropolitan area has intensified across major regional cities, a chronic problem known as a "job mismatch" has emerged. Job seekers cite a lack of employment information, while leading local companies report difficulties in recruiting. Daejeon Metropolitan City sought to go beyond simply sharing job postings by helping young people directly assess the growth potential and actual working conditions of promising new-industry companies in the region, thereby improving perceptions of them.
Daejeon Metropolitan City plans to continue providing multifaceted support so that young job seekers can find quality jobs in the region and settle there securely. Its efforts will include employment-skills programs, customized information, and systems to connect companies with one another.
Heo Tae-jeong, mayor of Daejeon Metropolitan City, said, "I hope today's meeting has laid the foundation for a better tomorrow for both young people and companies. Daejeon Metropolitan City will also concentrate all of its policy capabilities so that young people in the region can remain in Daejeon after graduation and plan their futures here."
