Kim Min-young wins Korea's first Asian Games Kurash gold; claims women's over-87kg title [Nagoya Asian Games]

Kim Min-young defeated Sryu Li-ling of Taiwan 5-0 in the women's over-87kg Kurash final at the 2026 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya, held on the 29th at Aichi Prefectural Budokan in Nagoya, Japan, to claim the title.
Kim Min-young was considered a strong contender for the title at these Games. After winning the Asian Championships in both 2025 and 2026, she advanced through the round of 16 and the quarterfinals to reach the semifinals.
She defeated Arailym Shegenova of Kazakhstan 1-0 in the semifinals before routing Sryu Li-ling 5-0 in the final to secure the gold medal.
Kurash is a combat sport that developed from traditional Uzbek wrestling and became an official event beginning with the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games. Uzbekistan, the sport's birthplace, has traditionally dominated the event. At the 2022 Asian Games, South Korea's Kim Min-gyu won silver in the men's 90kg division, while Jeong Yun-jong took bronze in the men's over-90kg division.
At these Games, South Korea added two Kurash medals after Mo Su-min of Korea National Sport University won silver in the women's 78kg division the previous day, followed by Kim Min-young's gold medal.
