Kim Min-young Advances to Kurash Final, One Win Away from South Korea's First Gold Medal [Nagoya Asian Games]

[Financial News] Kim Min-young (21, Korea National Sport University), a member of South Korea's national Kurash team, advanced to the Asian Games final and secured at least a silver medal. South Korea is now one match away from its first Asian Games gold medal in Kurash.
Kim Min-young defeated Arailym Shegenova of Kazakhstan 1-0 in the women's over-87-kilogram semifinal at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, held on the 29th at Aichi Prefectural Budokan in Nagoya, Japan.
Both athletes recorded one "Chala," equivalent to a yuko in judo, so they could not be separated by their technical scores. However, under the rules, the last athlete to score wins when the evaluations are equal, allowing Kim Min-young to secure her place in the final.
In the round of 16 and quarterfinals, she defeated both opponents by "Halal," or an ippon, to reach the semifinals.
If Kim Min-young wins the gold medal, she will set a record as the first South Korean Kurash athlete to win an Asian Games gold. After Mo Su-min of Korea National Sport University won the first silver medal in the history of South Korean women's Kurash in the 78-kilogram division the previous day, South Korea has produced a finalist for the second consecutive day.
Kim Min-young is also the 2025 Asian Championships winner. At these Games, she is seeking her first Asian Games title.
Kurash is a traditional Uzbek martial art in which, much like judo, competitors determine the outcome by throwing their opponents from a standing position. Ground pinning, choking and joint-locking techniques are not allowed.
Kim Min-young will face Seuryuriring of Taiwan in the final at around 3 p.m. that day.
