Daegu City, Daegu Office of Education and Others Mobilize to Build a Comprehensive Support Network for Students

【Financial News, Daegu—Kim Jang-wook, Reporter】Daegu Metropolitan City, the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education and nine other organizations are mobilizing to build a comprehensive support network that leaves no student behind.
Daegu Metropolitan City signed an agreement on establishing a public-private cooperation system for student-tailored integrated support with 11 organizations, including the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education, on the 29th. It has begun building a regional cooperation system to provide integrated support for students facing complex difficulties involving learning, emotional well-being, health and protection.
The agreement was pursued to enable a more systematic response to the complex problems students face inside and outside school, including learning difficulties, financial hardship, psychological and emotional crises, school violence, borderline intellectual functioning and abuse.
Mayor Choo Kyung-ho said at the signing ceremony, "Daegu Metropolitan City places importance on policies that citizens can feel the effects of and that provide real help where it is needed most." He emphasized, "We will fulfill the city's role so that the problems of individual students are not left as the responsibility of a single institution. By lowering the barriers between institutions, we will ensure that the necessary support is provided in a timely manner."
The agreement centers on establishing a student-tailored integrated support cooperation system linking the entire region and ensuring that the necessary assistance works effectively on the ground through a public-private consultative body led by working-level officials.
Under the agreement, each organization will contribute to linking the information needed to establish and operate a public-private consultative body for the student-tailored integrated support cooperation system, as well as to cooperation on citywide public outreach.
They also plan to provide integrated support for students whose learning, emotional, health and protection issues are intertwined and who require education, welfare, health, counseling and protection systems to work together for effective assistance.
Using the establishment of this public-private cooperation system as an opportunity, the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education plans to strengthen a student-centered integrated support system. Rather than providing fragmented assistance through individual institutions when students encounter difficulties, schools, the education office, local governments and the community will jointly examine each case based on the support students need and connect the expertise and resources of each institution.
Superintendent Kang Eun-hee said, "Using this agreement as an opportunity, we will build a practical cooperation system that connects students with the support they need in a timely manner, transcending the boundaries between institutions. We will work closely with the community to identify students in need at an early stage and ensure that no student is left without support."
Meanwhile, the city expects the agreement to go beyond a simple pact between institutions and serve as the starting point for creating a community-wide response system that identifies students in need sooner, connects them more accurately with services and provides more responsible support.
