Cellac Bio Opens Wonju Plant, Adding Capacity to Produce 16 Million Dermal Fillers Annually

[Financial News | Wonju—Kim Ki-seop, Reporter] A production plant capable of manufacturing more than 16 million dermal fillers annually has opened in Wonju Enterprise City following an investment of 70 billion won.
According to Wonju City on the 29th, medical device development and manufacturing company Cellac Bio held an opening ceremony that day for a facility in Wonju Enterprise City that meets strengthened Good Manufacturing Practice standards (cGMP). Construction on the Wonju plant began in February last year and was completed in April this year, with approximately 70 billion won invested in construction and equipment over one year and two months. Built on a site of approximately 3,000 pyeong, the three-story facility is equipped with aseptic filling systems for dermal fillers and has secured production capacity among the largest in South Korea.
The company is currently completing preliminary procedures for Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification ahead of full-scale production. Once certified, it plans to focus on producing dermal fillers containing Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA), PLLA and DOPA-HA, as well as skin boosters and functional cosmetics. Cellac Bio also plans to expand beyond in-house manufacturing into contract manufacturing and contract development and manufacturing, growing into a manufacturing partner that supports product development and production for global companies while responding to rising demand for dermal fillers.
Cellac Bio was founded by the founder and key personnel of global aesthetic medical company Hugel. It is pursuing expansion into overseas markets based on differentiated regenerative technology. Wonju City expects the completion of the plant to revitalize the medical device industry, which it has developed as a key industry for many years. The city is also working to expand its industrial foundation, built by attracting medical device companies, into an advanced medical industry incorporating cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), while pursuing the designation of an advanced medical complex.
Wonju Mayor Gu Ja-yeol, who attended the opening ceremony, said, "The establishment in Wonju of a production base capable of manufacturing more than 16 million fillers annually is a visible result of our efforts to attract medical device companies over the years. By securing the designation of an advanced medical complex and broadening the foundation for companies to establish themselves and grow in Wonju, we will position the city as the center of South Korea's medical device industry."
