LH Sejong Zero-Energy Apartment Complex Wins ASHRAE Asia Award for New Residential Buildings

[Financial News]  Korea Land and Housing (LH) has received an Asia regional award from a world-renowned building services society for the zero-energy multifamily housing it built in Sejong City.
LH announced on the 29th that Sanul Village 4 Complex in Block M1 of Sejong City’s Living Area 6-3 was selected as the winner in the Asia regional Residential-New category of the 2026 ASHRAE Region XIII Technology Award.
The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) is an international organization with more than 50,000 professionals active in over 130 countries. It presents awards based on comprehensive evaluations of the efficiency, maintainability, economic viability and environmental friendliness of building systems, including heating, cooling and ventilation.
Sanul Village 4 Complex, which was selected as the winner, is a public rental housing complex with 238 households. It achieved Grade 3 Zero-Energy Building certification, with an energy self-sufficiency rate of 79.83%, by installing a 505 kW geothermal heat pump, 234 kW of solar power generation equipment and high-efficiency ventilation systems. The energy self-sufficiency rate refers to the proportion of a building’s annual energy needs met by renewable energy generated within the complex.
In particular, the complex uses geothermal energy for heating and cooling and systematically manages the entire process from design through construction and operation. It has demonstrated strong energy performance in actual operation as well, producing heating and cooling energy equivalent to about 4.5 times the electrical energy supplied to the geothermal heat pump.
An LH official said, "We will continue to develop sustainable housing models that allow people to experience the benefits of energy savings in their daily lives."
