[On-the-Scene Video] Kim Min-soo: "Terror Attack at a Chinese Restaurant in Bundang Could Involve Transnational Repression"

Kim Min-soo, a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, referred to the recent terror incident at a Chinese restaurant in Bundang and called for a national response to transnational repression and internationally commissioned crimes, as well as the establishment of a legal definition for such offenses.
Speaking at a Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the 28th, Kim said, "On the 27th, four Chinese nationals attacked a Chinese restaurant called 'Xi Jinping' in Bundang District, Seongnam-si, and then left the country. Given that they entered the country at the same time, stayed at the same accommodation and committed the crime together, it appears to have been a planned crime."
He stressed, "This incident should not be dismissed as merely a crime committed by foreigners. We must carefully investigate whether the Chinese government or its agents were involved, as well as the possibility of transnational repression or a commissioned crime carried out by a criminal organization."
Citing the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)'s designation of transnational repression as a threat to national sovereignty, Kim said, "If South Koreans must even consider another country's sensitivities when naming their businesses, that is an unmistakable violation of sovereignty."
Kim pointed out that South Korea has yet to establish even a concept of transnational repression. He strongly called for the country to recognize transnational repression and internationally commissioned crimes as threats to national sovereignty and first establish clear legal definitions for them.
