National Assembly Education Committee selects UWAYAPPLY CEO over 'early admissions outage' and instructor Cho Jung-sik over 'alleged question trading' as witnesses

[Financial News] The National Assembly Education Committee on the 29th designated Sung Yoon-seok, CEO of UWAYAPPLY, as a witness for its parliamentary audit to hold the company accountable for the confusion caused by a website outage during the early-admissions application period. Cho Jung-sik, an English 'star instructor' on trial over allegations of trading CSAT questions, was also included on the committee's audit witness list.
The committee convened a plenary meeting that day and, following an agreement between the ruling and opposition parties, approved a motion requesting 19 ordinary witnesses and four reference witnesses to attend the parliamentary audit.
During the audit period, the committee plans to question Sung about the circumstances surrounding the system failure in the application process for the 2027 academic year's university early-admissions program. Cho is expected to face questions primarily about allegations of wrongdoing involving the trading of CSAT questions.
Heo Wook, vice president of Meta Korea, and Jung Jae-hoon, CEO of ByteDance and overall head of TikTok Korea operations, were also named to the witness list that day. The committee is expected to ask them about the adverse effects of young people's use of social networking services (SNS) and ways to prevent them.
Lee Boo-hwan, CEO of Hanwha Aerospace, who recently faced controversy over academic-background discrimination in hiring related to the company's 'experienced-hire recruitment guidelines,' is also expected to appear at the parliamentary audit hearing.
