Jeon Hui-su Lifts 141 kg in Clean and Jerk, Finishes Fifth with 248 kg Total at First Asian Games [Nagoya AG]

[Financial News] Korean women's weightlifting prospect Jeon Hui-su (19, Goyang) finished fifth at her first Asian Games after setting a personal-best total.
Jeon Hui-su recorded a total of 248 kg after lifting 107 kg in the snatch and 141 kg in the clean and jerk in the women's 86-kg weight class at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya, held on the 29th at the Nagoya City Small and Medium Business Promotion Hall in Nagoya, Japan.
After successfully lifting 103 kg in the snatch, Jeon Hui-su failed at 107 kg on her second attempt. She finished the snatch by lifting the same weight on her final attempt.
She remained unfazed in the clean and jerk despite a reversal of the decision. Jeon Hui-su lifted 137 kg on her first attempt, but a video review determined that her movement had not come to a complete stop after her balance shifted to the left while holding the barbell overhead. The successful lift was consequently overturned and ruled a failure.
Jeon Hui-su called for 137 kg again on her second attempt. This time, she regained her balance and completed the required stop cleanly to secure the lift. On her third attempt, she lifted as much as 141 kg, recording a total of 248 kg.
Jeon Hui-su also drew attention as a member of a "weightlifting family." Her father is Jeon Sang-guen, who won a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. Jeon Sang-guen was a leading figure in Korean weightlifting and won a silver medal at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou.
Following in her father's footsteps and representing South Korea, Jeon Hui-su set a personal best at her first Asian Games and demonstrated her potential on the international stage. The father-daughter pair will have to wait for another opportunity to win Asian Games medals together.
Meanwhile, the gold medal in the weight class went to China's Wu Yan, who recorded 124 kg in the snatch, 149 kg in the clean and jerk, and 273 kg overall. Bahrain's Alina Marushchak won silver with 272 kg, while Iran's Mahsa Beheshty took bronze with 259 kg.
