Woongjin Group Taps International Students in Korea as Key Talent for Overseas Subsidiaries

[Financial News] Woongjin Group is strengthening a virtuous-cycle model in which it identifies international students enrolled at Korean universities and hires them as talent for its overseas subsidiaries. The company is moving beyond one-off exchanges and using them as a practical recruitment channel to expand its global IT business.
Woongjin Group announced on the 29th that it had held the Malaysia International Student Networking Event to identify global IT talent and strengthen the competitiveness of its overseas subsidiaries. Held for three consecutive years since 2024, the event is producing tangible hiring results. Of the 60 international students who participated over the past three years, 15 were hired locally by Woongjin Asia.
Woongjin Group is actively recruiting international students because securing talent with both local knowledge and IT expertise has emerged as a key priority as the company strengthens new AI technologies and expands into global markets.
Kim Sang-woong, head of Woongjin Asia, said, "Given the importance of overseas expansion to the success of our IT business—in terms of advancing new AI technologies, securing key talent and expanding markets—we will continue to broaden exchange opportunities so that we can identify the talent needed for our global business."
The event was attended by 21 Malaysian international students majoring in information systems, data, computer science and software at four Korean universities, including Korea University (KU), Sungkyunkwan University, Yonsei University and Hanyang University. Participants received information about the major businesses of Woongjin Group's various divisions and the status of its Malaysian entity, followed by a question-and-answer session on local operations and recruitment.
Woongjin Group plans to maintain its network with participants and provide internship and employment opportunities to secure outstanding talent for its global operations, including Woongjin Asia, on a stable basis.
