"Want to try drugs?" Man in his 30s gives a woman he just met water laced with methamphetamine and is sentenced to two years and six months in prison

[Financial News] A man who made a woman he had just met drink water laced with methamphetamine has been sentenced to prison.
According to legal sources, Judge Park Ju-young of Criminal Division 3 at Busan District Court said on the 29th that the court had sentenced Defendant A to two years and six months in prison for violating the Narcotics Control Act involving psychotropic substances.
Defendant A was indicted on charges of secretly mixing 0.035 grams of methamphetamine into water at his residence in Busanjin District, Busan, on the morning of March 4 and giving it to Woman B to drink.
He was also charged with using 0.035 grams of methamphetamine on the same day.
At trial, Defendant A denied the charges, claiming that he had not secretly mixed methamphetamine into water and made Woman B drink it.
However, the court rejected his claim based on Woman B's testimony, a recording of the conversation between the two at the time, and the results of a urine test.
The court said, "Although there are some aspects that are difficult to understand, such as why B voluntarily went to the defendant's home despite not knowing him well and why she recorded their lengthy conversation, her overall testimony was generally consistent and specific from the investigation through the trial."
The court also cited as grounds for the guilty verdict the fact that A repeatedly urged B to take drugs in the recorded conversation, that B clearly refused several times, and that the recording included remarks by A saying he had put drugs in the water.
Woman B's urine test on the day of the incident came back positive for methamphetamine.
Defendant A had previously been punished several times for drug-related offenses. In March last year, he was sentenced to six months in prison for violating the Narcotics Control Act and was released in January this year. He committed the offense again less than two months after his release.
The court explained the sentence, saying, "Despite having served lengthy prison terms for similar offenses and sex crimes, he committed this offense immediately after his release." It added, "His conduct is particularly reprehensible because he went beyond simply using methamphetamine and made a woman he had just met drink water containing the drug, then denied the offense."
