From Polar Exploration to Arctic Shipping Routes... National Maritime Museum of Korea to Host Maritime Culture Academy

[Financial News] The National Maritime Museum of Korea said on the 29th that it will host the 2026 Maritime Culture Academy every Wednesday from October 7 to November 25. 
This year's Maritime Culture Academy is themed "Polar Exploration: A Record of Unceasing Challenges." The program consists of nine sessions featuring lectures and field visits on a wide range of topics, from the history of polar exploration to climate change and the marine environment, life in Antarctica, icebreaking research vessels, and Arctic shipping routes.
Participants will include Donghwa Lee, vice chair of the Polar Ocean Future Forum, an incorporated association that was the first Korean group to explore the polar regions; Baekmin Kim, a professor at Pukyong National University; Antarctic chef Ahn Chi-young; and Joo Hyung-Min, head of the construction project team for the next-generation icebreaking research vessel at the Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI). The speakers, who have researched or directly experienced the polar regions, will share stories about them from diverse perspectives, including history, the environment, photography, medicine, food, animals, navigation, and documentation.
The Maritime Culture Academy is open to registration online and on-site, and any adult may apply. Participation is free, with 50 spots available for each session.

Kim Jong-hae, director of the museum, said, "I hope this academy will provide an opportunity to hear the stories of people who have lived, researched, and documented the polar regions, and to think together about the future of the ocean and the planet."
