Former Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon Breaks Silence and Resumes Activities, Heads to the U.S. at University of Michigan's Invitation

[Financial News Suwon = Reporter Jang Chung-sik] Former Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon, who had kept a low profile since the last local elections, is resuming his public activities by traveling to the United States at the official invitation of his alma mater, the University of Michigan.
Former Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon officially announced his approximately two-month itinerary in the United States through a Facebook post on the 29th.
Kim Dong-yeon left for the United States that day to deliver special lectures and conduct policy research at the prestigious University of Michigan.
The visit to the United States was arranged at the formal invitation of the University of Michigan. The university will cover all expenses during Kim's stay, including airfare, accommodation, a vehicle and other related costs.
Kim Dong-yeon's ties to the University of Michigan run deep. While working in public service, he was selected as a Fulbright scholar in 1991 and earned a master's degree in policy studies from the university's graduate school. In 1993, he received a doctorate specializing in policy decision-making theory.
After stepping down as the first Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs in the Moon Jae-in administration in 2019, he also served as a visiting professor at The Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan, where he taught and conducted research.
During his stay, Kim plans to draw on his expertise as an established economic expert to lecture on the current state of the global and South Korean economies, South Korea-U.S. relations, and the cooperation pursued between Gyeonggi Province and the State of Michigan, which are sister states, during his tenure as governor.
In addition to his schedule at the University of Michigan, lectures at SUNY are also planned.
Political circles view Kim Dong-yeon's visit to the United States as the beginning of a full-scale resumption of his activities. Since the election, he had limited his public exposure while maintaining a quiet yet steady course.
A representative for Kim Dong-yeon said, "This visit to the United States will be an opportunity to share the policy experience and insights he has accumulated as an economic expert amid the serious circumstances of growing uncertainty in the global economy," adding, "It will be a meaningful opportunity to seek forward-looking solutions for South Korea-U.S. economic cooperation."
