Incheon Metropolitan City Government Produces “Shining Ilbaji” Work Pants to Help Older Residents Walk Safely at Night

[Financial News, Incheon = Reporter Han Gap-su] Incheon Metropolitan City Government is launching a campaign encouraging older residents in rural areas to wear “Shining Ilbaji” work pants to improve their safety when walking at night and prevent traffic accidents.
Incheon Metropolitan City Government announced on the 29th that it had produced and would distribute “Shining Ilbaji”—baggy work pants, also known as mombbe pants, enhanced with reflective features—so older residents would be more visible to drivers while walking at night.
The campaign was designed to create a practical safety device for everyday use by incorporating reflective features into the work pants commonly worn by older residents in rural areas.
The Traffic Safety Division of Incheon Metropolitan City Government first distributed “Shining Ilbaji” on a trial basis to participants in an older-adult traffic accident prevention education program held in Ganghwa County last August.
An on-site survey of the 200 older residents who took part in the training found that they had a high level of concern about the dangers of walking at night and safety devices.
A total of 195 respondents, or 97.5%, said, “I feel that walking at night is dangerous because the roads are dark,” while 197 respondents, or 98.5%, said, “I think Shining Ilbaji will help improve safety.”
Based on the results of the trial distribution, Incheon Metropolitan City Government plans to continue supplying “Shining Ilbaji” to older residents across the region through traffic accident prevention education and other programs.
An online event will also be held to allow residents to participate in the campaign in celebration of Respect for the Aged Day. A comment-based event will run on Incheon Metropolitan City Government’s official YouTube channel from September 29 to October 5. Through a random drawing, 100 pairs of “Shining Ilbaji” and 50 mobile coffee coupons will be given away.
