Hyundai Motor Company Brings Hyundai BAYON SUV to India, Betting on Generative AI

[Financial News] Hyundai Motor Company is targeting India's sport utility vehicle (SUV) market with the Hyundai BAYON, equipped with a generative AI voice assistant. The company plans to introduce the new vehicle during the peak local festival season and attract consumers with a feature that enables natural conversations with the vehicle. It is also responding to local demand by offering a gasoline engine with manual and automatic transmission options.
According to Hyundai Motor Company on the 29th, Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) began accepting pre-orders for the Hyundai BAYON on the 23rd local time. The deposit is 11,000 rupees, and applications can be made through Hyundai India's official website and sales network nationwide. The official launch is scheduled for the local festival season, with the exact date to be announced at the time of launch.
The Hyundai BAYON is a compact SUV first introduced by Hyundai Motor Company in the European market in 2021. The model is not sold in South Korea and will now expand its market to India. The India-specific model measures approximately 4.2 meters in length, making it longer than the Venue but shorter than the Kona among vehicles sold in South Korea.
The key differentiating feature of the India-specific Hyundai BAYON is its built-in generative AI voice assistant. Hyundai Motor Company focused on enabling more natural conversations between the driver and the vehicle. However, it did not provide specific details about the supported functions or the scope of services in its pre-order announcement.
The vehicle is built on the "Global K Enhanced Platform." Hyundai Motor Company explained that it designed the vehicle to target a five-star-level rating in India's safety assessments. This does not mean that the vehicle has actually received that rating in a crash test.
The exterior features H-Edge light-emitting diode (LED) daytime running lights and a hood with emphasized contours. Angular wheel arches, protective cladding around the lower door sections and roof rails reinforce the SUV's design.
The powertrain combines a gasoline engine with either a manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (IVT). Engine displacement, output and trim-specific prices were not included in the announcement.
Tarun Garg, CEO of HMIL, explained, "The Hyundai BAYON is a model that embodies the intelligent mobility experience Hyundai Motor Company pursues by combining advanced technology, design and safety." He added, "It was developed for Indian consumers who want intelligent features and comfort, confidence in the vehicle's safety and style all together."
