Incheon Airport Aviation Academy Recertified by ICAO, Expanding International Training Cooperation

[Financial News] Incheon International Airport Corporation's Aviation Academy will continue to build the foundation for developing a global aviation workforce after receiving recertification as an international training institution from ICAO. It secured certification through 2029 after passing 247 assessment items in 14 areas with no findings. The corporation plans to use the recertification to expand the development and hosting of ICAO-accredited training courses, as well as educational support for developing countries.
Incheon International Airport Corporation said on the 29th that its Aviation Academy had obtained recertification under ICAO's "TRAINAIR PLUS Programme (TPP)."
The corporation has renewed its certification through recertification reviews conducted every three years since becoming the first airport in the world to receive the certification in 2011. ICAO is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for the technological development and establishment of standards for international civil aviation.
The on-site assessment was conducted from the 15th to the 17th by Hervé Touron, an ICAO certification evaluator. The review covered 247 items in 14 areas, including training quality management, the establishment of education and training procedures, and curriculum development.
The Aviation Academy passed the assessment without any findings in areas including training programs, facility management, and operating procedures. Accordingly, its status as an ICAO-certified institution will remain valid through December 2029.
Following the recertification, the corporation plans to develop training courses jointly with ICAO and increase its hosting of accredited courses. It will also expand cooperation to train aviation professionals around the world.
Opened in 2008, the Aviation Academy was the first in the Asia-Pacific region to receive accreditation from all three international organizations: ICAO, Airports Council International (ACI), and International Air Transport Association (IATA). To date, it has provided free and paid training to 12,210 aviation professionals from 165 countries.
In 2014, it was designated an ICAO Regional Aviation Training Center, a title awarded to the top training institutions in each region. It also received the Platinum rating, the highest level under ICAO's performance-based rating system, for three consecutive years.
Since receiving certification as an ICAO full-member training institution in 2011, the corporation has directly developed 12 accredited training courses. It has produced six ICAO-certified instructors and 13 certified course developers, while attracting around 100 ICAO global trainees annually.
