Enter an Address Before Excavation to Check Underground Facilities... Easy Lookup Available Starting on the 30th

[Financial News] From now on, people will be able to enter an address online and immediately check whether underground facilities, such as water and sewer lines, gas lines, and telecommunications infrastructure, are located nearby before building a house or excavating land.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) announced on the 29th that it will officially launch the Easy Inquiry of Underground Facility Presence and Electronic-File Underground Space Integrated Map services on the 30th, based on its integrated underground-space digitization database. The services were created to eliminate the inconvenience of having to contact multiple agencies individually and to reduce administrative procedures by identifying potential hazards before excavation work begins.
Until now, building owners and development companies had to contact the agencies responsible for each type of underground facility separately, including local governments for water and sewer lines, Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) for gas lines, and telecommunications companies for communications infrastructure. Going forward, users will be able to access the VWorld spatial information open platform website, enter an address, and immediately check whether underground facilities are present around the site.
Services for experts and businesses will also be improved. Underground-space information, which had previously been provided only as paper maps for security reasons, will now be available as electronic files protected by data encryption technology. Underground development project operators can apply for data through the Underground Safety Information System and conduct detailed spatial analyses in an approved environment. The data provided will be automatically deleted after its validity period expires.
A MOLIT official said, "This service is a leading example of digital administrative innovation. It will help the public use the underground-space information they need quickly and conveniently, while further strengthening the security of critical national spatial information." The official added, "We will continue to create a safe and smart environment in which people can use underground-space information with confidence."
