[Financial News] Samsung SDI is targeting the power market for AI data centers by unveiling its cylindrical lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for the first time. The company is showcasing a lineup ranging from uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) with verified fire safety to batteries for emergency power and prismatic LFP batteries for energy storage systems (ESS). Its strategy is to secure global data-center customers by improving both power-supply stability and battery safety.
On the 29th, Samsung SDI announced that it participated in Data Centre World Asia (DCWA) 2026, which opened in Singapore, and unveiled battery solutions and a product lineup tailored to the AI data-center market. DCWA is Asia's largest exhibition covering the entire data-center ecosystem, from design and construction to operation and management. About 600 companies from around the world participated this year.
At the exhibition, Samsung SDI created four zones—uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), battery backup units (BBU), Samsung Battery Box (SBB), and cell products—to showcase products incorporating differentiated technologies.
The UPS zone at the center of the booth highlighted a notable achievement: a UPS solution that became the first in the world to meet all criteria in the Indoor Large-Scale Fire Test (Indoor LSFT) conducted by global safety certification organization UL Solutions. The LSFT evaluates the risks of battery explosions and thermal propagation. Samsung SDI passed every item in the test, demonstrating a level of safety regarded as among the industry's highest.
The BBU zone featured a high-power, high-capacity ternary battery (21700) with a bottom-vent design to enhance safety, along with a cylindrical battery lineup optimized for emergency power supplies at AI data centers. In particular, Samsung SDI unveiled its cylindrical lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for the first time at the exhibition. The product increases output and capacity through proprietary structural technology while further strengthening safety.
In the SBB zone, Samsung SDI introduced a prismatic LFP battery that will be installed in the integrated energy storage system (ESS) solution Samsung Battery Box 2.0 (SBB 2.0). The product applies LFP materials to Samsung SDI's proprietary prismatic form factor, enhancing both performance and safety.
During the exhibition, Samsung SDI will continue its marketing activities by sharing updates on its technology development with global customers. It also plans to participate in a technology conference and present its battery solutions.
A Samsung SDI official said, "We will continue to introduce differentiated solutions that can address the diverse needs of data-center customers, based on battery technologies that improve performance and safety."
