[Financial News] The court sentenced a former lover in her 40s to prison and ordered her to be taken into custody on charges of continuously stalking actor Go Se-won (49) and defaming him by posting false accusations online.
According to legal sources on the 29th, the 3rd Criminal Division of the Anyang Branch of the Suwon District Court (Presiding Judge Park Jun-seop) sentenced Mr. A, who was indicted on charges of violating the Act on the Punishment, etc. of Stalking Crimes and defamation by stating false facts under the Information and Communications Network Act, to two years in prison. In addition, he was ordered to complete a 40-hour stalking treatment program.
A, who was in a relationship with Go in the past, is accused of defaming Go by posting false statements on online communities and other platforms 10 times between November 2021 and September 2022, after their breakup, claiming that she "was abandoned and had a miscarriage after becoming pregnant by K, who is called the 'Prince of Housewives,' and was subjected to coercive sexual relations."
In addition, he was found guilty of continuously causing anxiety by sending text messages and other means 54 times from October 2021 to June of the following year, despite Mr. Go explicitly expressing his refusal, and by contacting Mr. Go's mother 8 times and visiting his home once.
During the trial, A's claims regarding pregnancy, miscarriage, and coercive sexual intercourse were all determined to be false and contrary to objective facts, based on a comprehensive review of OB/GYN medical records, ultrasound results, expert opinions from the Korean Medical Association, and transcripts.
The court pointed out, "Although the victim is an actor whose professional activities are directly influenced by public evaluation and trust, the defendant repeatedly posted false statements on internet bulletin boards containing content that allowed the victim's identity to be easily guessed," adding, "It appears that the victim suffered serious disruptions to their professional life, including acting activities, following this incident."
He further explained the reasons for the sentencing, stating, "He failed to reach an agreement with the victims and was not forgiven," and added, "Even considering that he has no prior criminal record for similar offenses, severe punishment is inevitable."
Following the verdict, Mr. Go shared his feelings on social media, stating, "The stalker who posted lies online has been sentenced to two years in prison and taken into custody in court," and adding, "I unintentionally ended up taking a long hiatus because it took a long time from the time I filed the complaint to the sentencing." Mr. Go's lawyer stated, "We plan to pursue legal responsibility to the very end, including civil claims for damages in addition to criminal punishment."
