Donald Trump will meet at the White House on the 29th (local time) with executives from major artificial intelligence (AI) companies, including Dario Amodei of Anthropic, Greg Brockman of OpenAI, and Mark Zuckerberg of Meta Platforms.
The meeting appears intended to reconcile differences between the administration and the industry over the challenge of competing with China in AI and calls to slow development amid fears that AI could bring about humanity's extinction.
CNBC reported on the 28th, citing sources, that President Trump would meet with AI industry leaders at the White House on the 29th.
Amodei, Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai of Google Experience Center, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, and OpenAI President Brockman are currently reported to be among those expected to attend.
On the government side, Trump, Mike Johnson, speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Vice President JD Vance, who also serves as president of the Senate, and other administration officials are expected to attend. The event will run throughout the day, with discussions covering various topics, including AI, energy, and space.
Meetings between the White House and leaders of the AI industry have become more frequent following last week's state dinner at the White House for Chinese President Xi Jinping, which was attended by Tim Cook of Apple, Elon Musk of SpaceX, and Lisa Su of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).
According to reports, Amodei, who did not attend the state dinner on the 24th, had a separate dinner with the president on the 27th. Sources said it was the first one-on-one meeting between Trump and Amodei.
The meeting is expected to help ease tensions between the president and AI industry leaders over calls to slow AI development. As concerns about AI safety intensify, the Trump administration fears that regulating AI could cause the United States to fall behind China in the competition.
