Ruling Democratic Party of Korea: "Provocation with Mines in the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) Can Never Be Tolerated... North Korea Must Apologize to Our Troops and People"

[Financial News] The Democratic Party of Korea strongly urged North Korea to cooperate in establishing the facts and issue an immediate apology after military authorities announced that the explosion in the Western Front's Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) was highly likely to have been caused by a North Korean mine, calling it "a blatant violation of the armistice agreement and inter-Korean agreements."
Park Seong-jun, chief spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea, said in a written briefing on the 28th, "If, as the ROK JCS's on-site investigation indicates, North Korea laid mines near the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) and threatened the lives of our service members, this can never be tolerated."
Park, the party's chief spokesperson, declared, "North Korea must immediately cooperate in uncovering every detail of this incident and should apologize to our seriously injured service members and people." He wished the soldiers injured while defending their country a speedy recovery and offered his deepest condolences to their families. He then stressed, "The Democratic Party of Korea will work alongside the Lee Jae-myung administration to respond firmly to any acts that threaten the security of the Republic of Korea."
Earlier that afternoon, Kwon Dae-won, deputy chief of the ROK JCS and an Army lieutenant general, announced interim findings at a Ministry of National Defense briefing. "Considering that there are no records of mines laid by our forces in the area and that traces indicating North Korean troops had laid mines nearby were discovered in September 2025, it is certain that this was not a mine laid by our forces," he said. He added that the explosion was very likely caused by a North Korean mine.
