[Financial News] A 1-ton live-fish truck crashed into a patrol car and a disabled vehicle one after another inside a tunnel on the Donghae Expressway in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, leaving one person dead and seriously injuring a police officer who was responding to the scene.
According to the Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency's Highway Patrol and others, at around 6:47 p.m. on the 28th, a 1-ton live-fish truck driven by Driver A, a man in his 40s, rear-ended a stationary patrol car at Cheongha Tunnel, located at the 8.7-kilometer mark on the Pohang-bound side of the Donghae Expressway in Cheongha-myeon, Pohang. The truck then crashed into the 3.7-ton box truck ahead.
Driver A, who was driving the 1-ton live-fish truck, died in the crash. Officer B, a police officer in his 50s with the Highway Patrol, was directing traffic and managing the scene for the 3.7-ton cargo truck that had broken down and stopped there earlier. He was struck by a vehicle, suffered serious leg injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Police are investigating the exact cause and circumstances of the crash based on the conditions at the scene and witness statements.
