[Financial News] Kyung Hee University's College of Hotel & Tourism Management has demonstrated its global research competitiveness by ranking third worldwide in a global academic subject evaluation.
According to Kyung Hee University on the 28th, its hotel and tourism field ranked third globally in the 2026 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), announced by ShanghaiRanking, a leading global university-ranking organization. The university climbed 14 spots from 17th place last year in just one year, earning the highest ranking among Korean universities. Globally, it ranked just behind Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the University of Surrey.
The rapid rise was driven by interdisciplinary research combining digital technology with the university's world-class researchers. Kyung Hee University has recently focused on research that applies artificial intelligence (AI) and information technology (IT) to tourism, including smart tourism.
The university received particularly high marks in the "world-class faculty" category, one of the evaluation criteria. Professors Namho Chung and Koo Chulmo were both named to Clarivate's list of the world's top 1% most-cited researchers, known as Highly Cited Researchers (HCR), earning recognition for their academic influence.
ShanghaiRanking's academic subject evaluation ranks universities worldwide based on a combination of objective indicators, including research performance, research influence, and international collaboration.
Seo Wonseok, dean of Kyung Hee University's College of Hotel & Tourism Management, said, "We will further strengthen our research capabilities in smart tourism and AI integration to cultivate talent capable of leading the digital transformation of the global tourism industry." He added, "We will continue to strengthen our research and educational environment in order to advance into the world's leading college of hotel and tourism management."
