Jeju Mirae High School to Offer Microsoft AI Practical Training, Strengthening the Skills of Students and Teachers

[Financial News Jeju | Reporter Jeong Yong-bok] Jeju Mirae High School, which will open in March 2027, will be the first school to implement practical AI education using AI experts and educational materials from Microsoft Korea.
According to the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education on the 28th, the office and Microsoft Korea signed an "Educational Cooperation Agreement to Nurture Future Talent with AI" at Microsoft Korea's Gwanghwamun office that day.
The agreement focuses on connecting AI technology with classroom instruction and real-world assignments rather than limiting it to separate theoretical lessons.
The two sides will integrate Microsoft Korea's AI specialists and educational materials into school education and jointly operate AI classes and educational programs in which students actively participate.
Teacher training will also be provided. The program will help teachers move beyond simply using AI tools and learn to design lessons that apply AI in line with learning objectives and subject content.
The first school to adopt the program will be Jeju Mirae High School, which opens next March. Established as part of a reform of Jeju's high school system, the specialized vocational school will operate four departments: Global Culinary Arts, Smart Agriculture, Digital and Tourism Content, and AI Software. Practical vocational education linking Jeju's tourism, agriculture, content and AI industries with future technologies will be a central pillar of the school's operations.
With a separate AI Software Department, attention is focused on how the partnership with Microsoft Korea will be connected to the regular curriculum, project-based classes and teacher capacity building.
The Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education plans to first operate the programs at Jeju Mirae High School before expanding them to other schools across Jeju.
The agreement also continues Jeju Mirae High School's efforts to connect its curriculum with industry and professional institutions ahead of its opening. This month, the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education signed an agreement with the Jeju Content Promotion Institute to provide customized education and job training, company visits and field training for students in the school's Digital and Tourism Content Department. The plan is to operate the new school in a way that connects vocational education with actual industrial workplaces rather than focusing solely on classroom instruction.
The partnership with Microsoft Korea adds AI education to this framework. The emphasis is on having students use AI directly while completing assignments and creating tangible results, rather than merely learning about its concepts and functions.
As AI education expands in schools, the role of teachers will become increasingly important. Lessons must be designed so that students do more than accept answers generated by generative AI: They must verify the results, check sources and errors, and use the technology based on their own judgment. This is why the agreement establishes teacher training in AI use and lesson design as a separate pillar alongside the student programs.
