First autumn foliage observed on Seoraksan this year—four days earlier than last year

[Financial News]  The year's first autumn foliage has been observed on Seoraksan.
The Korean Meteorological Administration said on September 28 that this year's first autumn foliage had been observed on Seoraksan, which stands 1708m above sea level.
The Korean Meteorological Administration considers the first autumn foliage to have been observed when about 20% of the mountain has turned color from the summit, and regards the foliage as having reached its peak when about 80% has turned color.
This year's first autumn foliage on Seoraksan was observed four days earlier than last year's October 2 and on September 28, the same date as the average. Last year's peak foliage on Seoraksan occurred on October 24, while the average date is October 17.
The Korean Meteorological Administration provides foliage updates for 21 major famous mountains nationwide through Weather Nuri. Photos taken before the foliage appears, at the start of the season and at peak foliage are published along with a map, allowing users to check the progression of foliage by region.
This year's famous-mountain foliage update service will operate from the 21st through November 27.
Kim Jeong-hee, head of the Gangwon Regional Meteorological Administration, said, "Before setting out on a foliage trip, I hope you will check the latest foliage conditions and weather information in advance through the Korean Meteorological Administration's Weather Nuri and the Gangwon Foliage and Weather Convergence Service, so that you can safely enjoy the beauty of autumn."
